Joshua M. Garrin, Ph.D., CPT, CHC, CBCS

jgarrin-biopic-2Joshua  M. Garrin holds a Ph.D. in health psychology, an M.S. in cognitive psychology, and a B.S. in general psychology and journalism. Following the completion of his doctorate in 2014, Joshua was the recipient of Walden University’s Harold L. Hodgkinson Award for Outstanding Dissertation Research for his inquiry on health beliefs, outcome expectancies, and stress appraisal in college seniors. In addition, Joshua is the recipient of Walden University’s 2015 Presidential Alumni Research Dissemination Award for having published his award-winning dissertation research via multiple literary channels.

As a health psychologist, Joshua’s interests focus on the intrinsic motives that underlie sustained health behavior change—seven of which serve as the conceptual framework discussed in his book, “The I-Way to Well: Mapping the Seven Selves of Health Motivation” (Motivational Press).

Joshua is also a certified health professional through the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Council on Exercise, and the Institute of HeartMath. As a fitness professional, Joshua has a deep appreciation for educating others on the acute responses and chronic adaptations to nutritional choices and physical activity. As a health coach and self-regulation practitioner, Joshua embraces a biopsychosocial, person-centered approach to helping others achieve desired states of health and wellbeing across all stages of the lifespan.

As a positive strategist, Joshua’s deep emphasis on optimism as a driving force of change enables him to manifest the “I can” as he lives by the empowering ideal, “I’m not what happened to me. I’m what I choose to become.” 

As a truth alchemist, Joshua’s enduring belief that we each have a unique, self-determined path to follow fuels his deep desire to seek authenticity, pursue meaning, manifest intention,  and stay true…to stay “on”.

As an abundant minimalist, Joshua’s fundamental view that “less is more” empowers him to “release the irrelevant” and simplify the change process by starting where he is, using what he has, and doing what he can —right now.

As a motivation machinist, Joshua’s undying passion for manifesting self-generated, self-sustainable motivation keeps him on a continual quest to re-envision the journey to optimal health and wellbeing —from the inside out.

Joshua resides in the Hudson Valley region of New York with his beautiful wife, Renée, and his amazing step-daughter, Melissa. Beyond health ad wellness, Joshua is completely and utterly OBSESSED with exploring nature, writing music, and collecting experiences that inspire the story line for his next chapter.
