The thought comes often. “I’m not good enough.” It happens to the best of us, and it’s something almost impossible to avoid. I’m sure you know this feeling I’m talking about, the negativity that sucks the life out of us. Life can be tough. Stress from work, family, friends, the pressure to act a certain way. It all adds to our burden of things to cope with.
Whenever the thought comes up, the best thing to do is to cancel it out and start replacing that thought with a more positive one. Here are 29 things you should remember every time you get the feeling you’re not good enough.
Find out what you’re good at with these tips.
1. Remember That All You Feel Comes From You
If you think you’re not good enough, it is from within. It’s the reality you put in your mind and start to believe. These negative things we tell ourselves make us feel inferior and starts stressing us out. So if you feel as though you’re not good enough, the first place to look is at yourself and understand that we are doing nothing but harming ourselves with this. And don’t forget, you are enough!
2. You Are You, And You Are The Best At It
This statement is true. You may not be the best version of yourself yet, but you are the best you. This is your journey, and you create your path. Let’s remember why we are walking on this road and start appreciating that there is only one you. So stop comparing yourself to others and start looking at your own life, making you the best you possible! This is one of my favorite quotes:
“Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!” – Dr. Seuss
3. Stop Comparing Yourself To Others
It’s easy to keep comparing yourself to others who seemingly do better than you. Just remember that these people feel the same way too and they compare themselves to others also. It’s the things we don’t see that make people human. Things we didn’t think others struggled with. We all go through the feeling of inferiority and insecurity; you are not alone. Remember that we are all beautifully imperfect in our ways.
4. Aim For Growth, Not Perfection
We were never meant to be perfect. And we should never bring ourselves down because we can’t achieve it. It’s not wrong to aim for perfection because it helps us get better. But don’t for a second think you’re not good enough because you didn’t achieve it. The journey is the most critical part, and if we can be better than we were yesterday, that’s the progress we should strive for.
“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars.” – Les Brown
5. Our Struggles Are Necessary
This seems weird but our struggles help us grow into the person we ought to be. Mistakes are how we learn and where we are in life today is part of the journey we must take to get to our destination. Whether you think you deserve to be here now or not, it is something you can grow out of and become a much more significant person.
6. Everything Will Work Out For The Best
Things always tend to work out for the best. To be happy, you need to know sadness. If we were happy all the time, happiness would just be a norm, and we wouldn’t feel satisfied, but instead feel normal. Just remember that life is full of ups and downs, and with every down, an upturn is right around the corner.
7. Do Not Resist, Embrace Where You Are
Stop resisting your current circumstances but embrace them and understand that this is precisely where you should be right now. Start learning the lessons you’re being taught and when the good time’s role by, remember what this experience taught and made you feel.
8. Let Go Of Self-Pity And Start Loving Yourself
Telling yourself that you are a loser or a failure won’t help. Don’t expect to be a success with negative self-talk like that. Telling yourself all these will not make you feel better, and you won’t achieve anything when you feel terrible. Start letting go of your self-pity and start loving yourself starting with your mind. It’s so simple yet so effective.
9. You Can Choose To Be Calm Or Stressed Out
If you had a choice, would you prefer to be stressed out or calm? Yes, it is a choice. People tend to be more harmful and forget the positives. Choose to be in peace, and you’ll soon see that there are many reasons to be calm. Are you one of those negative nancy’s who’s a pro at feeling miserable? You can use that specific talent to make yourself feel great too.
10. What You Choose Can Create A Better Outcome
We can’t predict the future, but we can surely take control of ours. The best way to shape a compelling future is to focus on now and change what we can now. Remember that negativity will lead to a negative future, so let’s try to be conscious of our thoughts. Steer them the right direction. This is our choice, and that choice determines our future.
11. Challenges Are Your Stepping Stone
Get this mindset, and you’ll keep pushing forward in the right direction. Every problem you overcome will take you one step up from where you were. This kind of progress is a great way to look at life and makes us want to face more challenges. Remember that if it’s worth it, it’s not going to be easy.
“Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can do what others can’t” – Jerry Rice
12. We All Make Mistakes
Everyone and I mean everyone makes mistakes. There’s no exception to that. It’s true that mistakes are the best ways to learn and the best thing to do is to make as many errors as possible. What’s important is not making the same mistakes twice and learning from them. Even the best people in the world have made mistakes, so we are no exception. As we grow and learn from more mistakes, we will see more significant growth in our lives.
13. Try Without Regrets
The biggest regret people have are the things they don’t do, and not the things they did. If you feel you’re not good enough, at least try something. Take a chance and give yourself the gift of not regretting the time when you did not want to try something.
14. Take A Step Forward
No matter how bad things are or how you feel, there’s always a way to take a step forward. No matter how small. As long as you’re headed in the right direction, you should take courage from that. Getting somewhere won’t happen if we just stand around, it starts with a step. Even a baby step will put us one baby step closer to where we want to be.
15. You’re Trying Your Best, Don’t Be Too Hard On Yourself
Stop putting yourself down because you’re not feeling great. You may not have achieved what you want yet. This is no reason to beat yourself up. You can always do better, but you’re trying hard, but as long as you’re headed in the right direction and don’t give up, you’ll get there. It’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon and feeling better will always get you there faster.
16. You Are More Experienced Today
This is true for everyone. Experience takes time and takes going through things. We’ve gone through a lot. More than a few years ago and more than yesterday. These are all priceless experiences that make us more capable of doing things than we were before. It’s a gift to us. We will be stronger tomorrow so take courage in that.
17. If You’re Stuck, There’s Always A Path
No matter how bad things look, there’s always a way out. A solution could be right at the corner; we just need to keep looking. Have faith that things will work out and you will feel much better about yourself in any situation. Having faith and releasing the worries can help us take a different perspective on things. I’m sure you know a time when your friend/family member had a problem that seemed so significant to them, but you could advise them about it. That’s looking at your struggles from a different perspective and not just living in it.
18. You Determine The Quality Of Your Life
You and you alone can determine the kind of life you live. Start thinking negatively you can expect a lower quality life. Focus on the good and see how your life changes for the better. Are you living your dream? Are you happy with your circumstances? If your answer was No, why not? Start living for yourself and make sure that whatever you do, make sure it’s something that makes you happy in the long term.
19. Not Everyone Will Approve Of You
It doesn’t matter who says it. Stop listening to the naysayers. Some will support you and some will not. This is true for anything you do in life. There is only a hand full of people who would give you full support and you better be one of them. Leave the voices out of your head and start doing things you always wanted to. Just understand that you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone.
20. If You Want Something Bad Enough, You Will Get It
You might be thinking, I want XYZ pretty badly, but I don’t have it. It’s quite simple; you don’t want it bad enough. You’re not willing to do whatever it takes to get there. Of course, bigger things require a more significant desire. But if you feel like you want something so badly but you’re not getting it, think about what you would sacrifice. Think of the barriers. Does laziness or procrastination get in the way? Then your desire is not strong enough.
21. Cut Out All Other Options
When you feel you’re not good enough and want to give up, burn your bridges behind. You’re good enough to get through it, so it’s time to do just that. Take away the safety net that gives you the option to give up without getting hurt. You know you’re more than good enough to grow beyond your troubles. Stop complaining, take the wheel and steer yourself to the direction you choose.
22. Right Now Is Your Most Important Time
Keep reminding yourself that ‘now’ is the most important and significant time for you. This is the time you can change and shape what you want to be. The past is full of regrets, and the future is full of dreams. Both are important but what’s more important is what you do today. Will you live the rest of your life regretting the past? Will you look to the future and live in hope? Or will you take the lessons of the past with your dreams of the future and work on them today? It’s your choice.
23. You Can’t Control Everything
Don’t be a control freak. Things happen all the time that’s out of your control. But what you can control is the way you perceive and react to it. Tragedy can happen, and you can choose to be a victim, or choose to help others with your experience. This will empower you to greater things in your life. So make sure you look at things the right way and don’t let outside interference distract you from who you truly are.
24. Respect Yourself To Earn The Respect Of Others
There’s no doubt that no one will respect a person that can’t appreciate himself. If you want something from others, make sure you’re in a position to get it. If you’re going to be respected, make sure you respect yourself first. There’s nothing more respectful in a person than someone who respects himself.
25. Move On. You’ve Gained Much More Than You Lost
Stop living in regrets. For every bad thing that happened, you always came out better. Sometimes, you learned a valuable lesson; sometimes it worked out for a greater good. Appreciate what you’re blessed with today and stop worrying about what might have happened. Life is about moving forward, and taking a step up is always the better option.
26. You Have Gone Through Some Tough Times
That’s right, you probably experienced worse before. Maybe not, but you already gone through some tough times and you made it. The past has made you who you are, a stronger and better version of yourself. This challenge is only going to make you stronger in the future. Remembering that one point can take you a long way in your journey.
27. Your Scars Show How Strong You Are
The scars you got yesterday will remind you of times when things weren’t great, but you fought through it. Don’t be ashamed of past scars. They are there for a reason, and they are beautiful. A lion with lots of scars should scare you more than one without because it went through a lot and came out much stronger. The same can be said for our mental scars.
28. You Haven’t Given Up Yet
If there’s one thing to take courage from, it’s that you haven’t given up yet. Then why choose now? This is not the time to give up, not when you’ve come so far.

Final Thoughts
I’d like to end with this quote:
“Sometimes our best won’t be good enough but that doesn’t mean we’re not good enough” – Renee Swope
This is so true. Whenever we think we’re not good enough, it’s just a story we made up in our minds that tricks us into believing so. Just remember that everyone who’s ever amounted to something had thought or been told that they’re not good enough.
