“Remember, you always get a result. If it’s not the one you want, you have the power and the ability to change.” – Carol Talbot
The human potential is to grow. Remember as a young children you learnt to walk, talk, read and write and ask a lot of questions! Your questions helped you to learn and grow and take massive leaps forward.
As you are growing older, you are still learning and growing, however, it is easy to get stuck in habits and patterns of behavior that no longer serve you. The universe offers a wealth of opportunities to learn, grow and development yourself in many different ways.
Here are 4 ways to learn, grow and develop yourself in order to reach more success in life.
1. Modelling Excellence
Have you ever been moved by a great presenter and said to yourself, ‘I wish I could be as good as that.’
In sports or business it’s called benchmarking the competition, in terms of developing yourself, and in the field of NLP (neuro linguistic programming) it’s called modeling excellence. Perhaps you are a really good communicator or excel in sports while anything technical or linked to physics is a real challenge. NLP is the study of human excellence and how outstanding individuals get their outstanding results.
The applications are enormous. It means if someone is highly skilled in a particular area such teaching, sports or the arts you can ‘model excellence.’ If you observe and listen carefully to how successful people behave, how they communicate, discover their beliefs and values – to literally understand ‘how they do what they do,’ then you are tapping into a recipe for success that you can duplicate by installing those same patterns of thinking, communication, beliefs and values in yourself.
Just for a moment consider who would be good models of excellence for you? Who is doing what you want to be able to do? Who is achieving what you want to achieve?
2. Learning through experience.
Do the most successful people in the world always get it right? No, and the good news is that you can learn through experience.
Consider that whenever you take action, there are only two possible outcomes; you either get what you want, or you don’t. And people will tell you that when they don’t achieve the result they wanted it was for reasons beyond their control, like “I was late because of the traffic,” “I didn’t have enough time to finish my homework,” or “I was too busy.” These are really just excuses.
The problem is, most people actually believe that their excuses are true! So your task now is to pay attention to what’s working in your life, learn from what is not working and get rid of all your excuses.
Remember, you always get a result. If it’s not the one you want, you have the power and the ability to change!
A powerful belief to adopt is ‘there’s no such thing as failure; only feedback.’
3. Givers Gain.
‘Giver’s Gain’ is the philosophy behind BNI (Business Networking International), a phenomenally successful organization that offers powerful opportunities to share ideas, learn and grow through networking successfully. You’ve probably heard that saying – ‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.’ So what groups can you participate in where you can share your experiences and learn from others too?
Your level of success is dependent on your level of thinking and the people you choose to surround yourself with. Are you inspired by the people around you right now?
4. It’s impossible not to learn!
What I have learnt is that it is impossible not to learn!
On the road of life, whether it is through journaling your experiences, good, bad or ugly, hiring a coach or mentor, travelling, attending training programs, networking, meditating, reading, watching movies or a documentary, spending time with friends, family or strangers, or out in nature, there is always more to learn and discover!
