Step 3 – Trust Your Gut/Believe in Yourself
I love that we are here continuing our journey together and I would love to hear about your findings from Step 1 – Falling in Love with You and Step 2 – Discover Your Passion + Purpose = World Change formula. You can send me a message through my website at www.careerswithwings.com.
Now we are ready to enter into Step 3 – Trust Your Gut/Believe in Yourself
And why is this step so important? Well because the world is full of naysayers who will tell you that your dreams aren’t possible and will tell you things that will discourage you from going after what you love. So what I have to say to that is that it is important that you stay strong and believe in you and your dreams and go after them.
For this step – I will share part of my own journey to show you what is possible when you believe in you.
When I graduated from college, I was determined to live my dream, which was at that time to use my degree in International Affairs and Spanish to make a difference in the world. I graduated during a recession and I heard things like, “You will be lucky enough to find any job, let alone your dream job!” or “Be practical.”
I chose to not listen to the naysayers and instead stay focused on living my dream. I will be honest, this doesn’t mean you wave a magic wand and your dream appears. When you go after your dreams, you do what it takes to make it happen. And for me, this meant taking on temp jobs while I searched for my job, so I could pay my bills. It also meant talking to as many people as I could to find out where my dream job could be and it meant applying to all the jobs I could that lined up with my dreams. We will go even more into these steps in upcoming articles to help support you on your journey.
I am happy to report that all of that paid off and I landed my dream job with the Inter-American Foundation outside of Washington, D.C. where I supported and worked with projects in El Salvador, using my Spanish to make a difference, just as I set out to do. Our work helped break the cycle of poverty and we gave microfinance loans to grassroots development projects like healthcare and agricultural cooperatives. To this day, it is still one of my favorite jobs and I could see the difference we made and the lives we touched/changed and that made my heart happy.
I share this to inspire you that no matter what you hear from others, believe in you and your dreams. Trust your gut and go after your passions and purpose. The world needs you to be you and to make the difference you are here to make.
I believe in you and your dreams.
