Step 5 – Develop your vision of where you want to go and how you want your whole life to look.
We have traveled many steps along the journey to put together the pieces of your Passion + Purpose = World Change formula and I would love to hear about your findings so far – feel free to send me a message through my website www.careerswithwings.com.
You can view the previous Step 4 here or begin at Step 1 here.
One thing I have learned from working with so many adults over the years is that looking back over their life they wished they had developed a clearer vision at a young age of what they wanted their life to look like and taken steps over time to get there. Of course, your vision can evolve and change over time and that is ok, but going towards what you want to create helps you live your dreams. So you are lucky, because you are young – you have the time now to start getting clear on how you want your life to look and start living that now.
So how do you do this?
I generally recommend that at the end of the year/beginning of the year – you sit and dream about what you want to your year to look like and also think about what you want future years to look like.
Ask yourself these type of questions below and also review what you have written down in the previous steps.
What do you want to be doing?
What kinds of experiences to you want to have?
What do you want to create?
How do you want to help others and the world?
Where do you want to travel?
What kind of work do you want to do?
How do you want to spend your time?
You can also break your life into areas and think of how you want each area of your life to look next year and in years to come, for example:
- Giving Back
- Other categories
Once you get clear on these areas, start adding dates of when you want to accomplish these things in the coming year and years ahead.
Now the key step, make sure you set aside one day a week, maybe Sunday, to plan your week. When you do this, start incorporating in steps you can take to get closer to living your dream in each area of your life.
For example, if you got clearer on what you want your career to be. You can plan to start doing research on the types of opportunities that are available for this field, find people in this field to talk to about their work, start volunteering in your area of interest, see about internships, etc.
So now you have the steps to creating your vision at the end or beginning of each year. Reflect back on and celebrate all that you have accomplished and also use this time to update and fine tune your vision and start the process over again the following year.
Yay! Here’s to living the life of your dreams :).
