Doubt creeps in, in a special way, but you’ll often find that you can stop it before it gets carried away. This all happens within us. It’s right in your thoughts. Listen to understand better how your thoughts are moving, and be determined to dictate the final course.
There’s the power of self-fulfilling prophecy in the idea of a thought.
Think of success, and you embody it. Think of failure, and your very limbs tremble with fear, doubt, anxiety, and disbelief.
It might surprise you learn that belief isn’t a natural gift.
It has to be built and then sustained by habit. The benefit to belief is that your power of success becomes evident in the situations you face in life. You’ll have greater determination, a clearer understanding of yourself and the satisfaction of knowing that you are near.
Everything we want is close to us if we just understand our own power and the idea we have of ourselves.
Are You Uncomfortable? Good. You’re Just Getting Started.
Part of believing yourself begins with accepting discomfort. We all live with opposing powers aimed at the things we pursue. The trick with believing in yourself is in knowing that opposition doesn’t necessarily go away. What goes away is your attitude about it. Some discover that they eventually develop a comfort zone in the opposition they live with.
It’s all a matter of what’s in your head.
Your thoughts have power. Your focus will alter how your body perceives the world.
Focusing on negatives will start to alter your biology. This is where anxiety comes from.
Imagine how long you’ve been harboring this if you haven’t caught your own thoughts in the act. It all works on a principle of accumulation. You won’t change your mindset overnight, but one night of focus on the right things changes the motion. Positive thoughts will accumulate to dominate the way you think eventually.
Decide On What To Believe In
In believing in yourself, you have to make a decision. The unexpected will occur, the worst will and the beyond belief will also happen. Make a choice today on how you will stand during those moments. Believing in yourself isn’t about some special power of your will. It’s instead about your practices and habits. Those practices can’t change.
This is why it’s helpful to set what you’re going to believe in and to stand by it. You want to set your beliefs to reduce confusion. You don’t want to find yourself where you don’t know what to believe. Belief is a proactive mindset. It doesn’t come by accident. Determine this day that you will always have faith in what’s possible and that you can achieve anything you pursue.
Even failing for the next five years shouldn’t change how you project your beliefs.
The day you change what you admittedly believe in will change your peace of mind.
Associating With Positive Outcomes
Some of our doubts are grounded in what’s called “mauvaise foi.” This is a French term that’s translated as “bad faith.” People find themselves with this mindset after they’ve compounded negative thinking over days, weeks, months and years. This results in an innate response in you that looks toward the adverse outcome.
You have first to understand that it happens through practice.
Something about how you grew up or where you are in life has pushed you to determine most things as having a negative outcome. Failure can lead us to do this. Having negative people around us can do this. You can turn this around. The only way to combat “bad faith” is to assume the positive outcome proactively.
Remember, this isn’t about the superpowers we have. Your mind is conditioned if you’re always assuming the worst. This mindset isn’t permanent; it must be reconditioned. You do it by assuming a positive outcome. It could be that your self-doubt is so intense that you genuinely believe the negative results your brain has devised.
The same is true with the positive thoughts you can have instead.
They don’t have to have any real logic behind them.
You just need to get in the practice of assuming the best. Make it a habit. Accept the fact that it might not make any sense, but that over time, the results are more confidence and an innate pull to stronger beliefs. Use this method to protect the vision of yourself achieving your goals and following through until they’re completed.
Not Taking No For An Answer
How quickly are you convinced that it won’t work? That happens when you give in. You’re the one choosing how you see the world. You might have had a slow start in life. It doesn’t matter. The grunt-work of believing in yourself is not taking no for an answer. You’ll need a major transformation if disbelief has gripped your thoughts.
The work is best when accumulative, but life often throws us something completely unexpected. This is when we have to roll up our sleeves and push our thoughts away to void the negative out. You do so by not taking the negative as the reality of your life. Refuse to succumb to it and never do even for a moment.
How Much Does This Actually Matter To You?
Inspiration moves us to do amazing things. It can drive us to do things immaturely too. You might be facing a situation that you want to get out of. That’s fine. What happens when the challenges of this situation begin to die down? Will you forget about what you’re learning now? Will it all lose meaning to you?
These are essential questions to ask ourselves.
Believing in yourself is a daily discipline.
Recall that building this belief system is something done through habit and by molding the way you see the world. Having your current circumstances change right now won’t change the fact that self-belief and self-doubt are self-imposed. Ask yourself just how bad you want it if this sounds intimidating.
We don’t want you to continue living with a feeling of inadequacy.
You will continue to live in doubt if the change to believe in yourself isn’t grounded in a deep desire for something permanent. The only permanent change you have is based on how bad you wanted it. Practice what you learn today every day for the rest of your life. Just realize that happiness and confidence are worth it.
Being True To Your Why
It’s easy to lose sight of what we’re doing if we don’t know why. Sometimes, “the why” just isn’t strong enough. You don’t have to philosophize as if Plato, but you do need to find meaning in the change. That change will be superficial if it’s caused by a situation that’s likely to change regardless of your mindset.
Look at your life and ask yourself why.
The challenges that will inevitably arise will challenge the belief you establish today. No matter how much of a challenge that becomes, it’s entirely up to you to give in to them. We don’t expect you to be some kind of superhuman with extraordinary powers. We do expect that you never change your passion for self-belief.
You can maintain your progress by coming to terms with your why.
Here are a few things that you want to ask yourself:
– Why is it essential for me to always believe in myself?
– What are the consequences if I fail to live with confidence?
– Can I live committed to my newfound reasons for the rest of my life?
– Who do I become if I continue to live in self-doubt?
Setting Realistic Goals To Avoid The Negative Associations
We’re raised to be ambitious in society to get a job, socialize with friends and to feel good about ourselves. Surprise, ambition has to be tamed. There are certain boundaries of ambition that immediately work against us if we find ourselves there. This often comes in two forms.
1. We compare ourselves to others.
2. We set goals that aren’t likely to be reached anytime soon or ever.
Think twice if you’re feeling the pressures of society.
They could be the source of your doubt and disbelief. The goals we set have to be realistic. They have to be attainable. Trying to achieve outstanding things within very little time is often a recipe for disaster and no matter how much the movies tell you otherwise. Consider adjusting your goals to things that you can achieve gradually.
Take one step and then another.
Having this mindset is proof that the plan you set for yourself can be accomplished. We suggest going about your goals in an incremental manner because the failures along the way will be bearable. It could be that the mistakes you make are a drastic weight in your life because you’ve set out to accomplish too much in too little time.
This would actually be a self-destructive way to go about life and is indeed a path that will drain you of belief. Set realistic goals to manage the failure as it comes and to build a strong, long-term history of success. That history is sure to improve your confidence and will stay with you when things go sour.
Expect It To All Go Wrong, And Be OK With It
We find that people with the most doubt about themselves are those who see life with more idealism than they might care to admit. Life consists of two forces. Star athletes deal with tremendous stress on their bodies regardless of the fact many of them pursue what they love. The good comes with the bad and vice-versa.
Look into your habits to identify if you’ve been expecting things to be “too good.”
We don’t suggest that life isn’t valuable.
What needs to be expressed is that there’s a level of pain and suffering in this world. At every level of happiness, you find it. Living life is a give and take relationship. You’ll be disappointed if you expect perfection without it going wrong at some point. You might have built a mindset where you see the things that do go wrong to be out of control.
They just might be, but they’re not out of what you can handle.
You’ll often find that just being a little patient, taking the time to think and then being positive goes a long way. There are solutions to every problem we face.
Having unrealistic expectations creates a delusional mindset that can’t take it when things go wrong. Start by being OK with the fact that some of what you do just won’t work.
You might get real close and try numerous times, but somethings won’t end off the way you expected. They just might end off better, but you’ve got to be in the position to try again.
Closing Out With Contentment
What we use to deal with failure is identity.
We all have something to be identified by. The trick to dealing with failure is to disassociate your identity with the possessions you gain in life. Having trophies and medals don’t define who you are. You have to find who you are when you’re with or without. This is the balance that you come to no matter what happens.
It allows you to “weather the storms” and to separate your potential from the failures you face. Your self-belief is then maintained for another day and to achieve a different goal. Welcome to believing in yourself, and have fun doing it.
