You know those days where you wake up on the wrong side of the bed and everything seems to go wrong? Where if feels like no matter what you do or say, no one understands you, or even worse, they get mad at you or you get in trouble?
Yeah, these days happen to everyone. Even people who pretend to have it together all the time.
Here’s the thing…
The more you focus on the funk, the more funky things get. But ignoring it doesn’t really work either.
So how DO you turn a funky day around?
It’s more simple than you may think.
1. PAUSE. STOP THE MENTAL CHATTER
When you get caught up in the mental loop of how everything is going wrong, you draw more of this negative energy in. Why? Because we get what we focus on. This is a basic Universal law. We attract into our awareness what we place our attention on.
Think about it…
If you walk around feeling horrible about yourself and focusing on how no one likes you, the energy you emit is one of negativity and low self esteem. You see this everywhere + you repel people away from you. Or, you draw in those on a similar funky wave length. You feel yucky and that’s what you attract.
When you feel confident and secure, you give off an entirely different vibe and attract other people who match your frequency. You feel good and you notice more positive things. I call this finding your “soul yum”.
Pausing allows you to stop the negative mind loop. It gives you space to breathe, to slow down, to reassess, and to regain your self. It creates the space to get curious.
2. GET CURIOUS
There is order in chaos. Your “funk” actually holds wisdom within it. All of your emotions do. So get curious and explore what is really going on under the surface. Take a look at your thoughts and your circumstance. And at your thoughts about your circumstances.
What message does your mood have to offer you?
What is the benefit of staying in this funk?
Sometimes there is a hidden benefit to being in a funk. Maybe you get attention when you are in a bad mood. Perhaps people who might otherwise bully or pick on you keep their distance. Whatever the reason, remember that you always have the choice to shift your focus.
3. SHIFT YOUR FOCUS
By shifting your focus, you expand your perspective, which invites in new possibilities.
You may not be able to control the external circumstances, but you can always choose how you respond to them.
Ask yourself:
“How else could I look at this?”
This invites in new possibilities and expansion + it creates the space for something different to emerge.
4. PRACTICE GRATITUDE
Ask yourself:
“What am I grateful for right now?”
Make a list of 10 things you appreciate. (This also helps you shift your focus and invite in new possibilities)
Gratitude is a quick road to opening your heart and feeling love. And love is a great way to get out of a funk.
5. MAKE A NEW CHOICE
What would you rather experience?
Frame this in the positive. So if you are feeling funky instead of saying “ I don’t want to feel funky”, tune into what you DO desire to feel. Ex: happy, confident, peaceful inside.
Get clear on what you want to experience and align your actions to create this reality. Surround yourself with people who exude and embody the qualities you want in your life. Remember that you have the power to choose how you respond in any situation.
